3 Blogging rituals to live by

Because we all need a good habit to keep us flowing

Working a full time job and blogging can be a tough balance (especially if you’re lazy like me). I’ve learnt a lot since I started blogging way back when. So in early 2019 I decided I need to come up with a plan, to essentially feel as though I have it all under control, enter my little blogging rituals.

A Little bit of writing per day

Enter daily writing tasks. If I’m working on a blog post throughout the week, I’ll tend to set myself word count targets each day. Usually from 250 to 500 words. It may not seems like a lot but at the end of the week it all adds up to a nice little post for the blog.

It’s also a great way to keep the blogging concept fun and really remove that overwhelming feeling of needing to dedicate a large amount of time for content.

By the end of the week, its just an edit and chop and change situation. Which is perfect, because it totally takes the stress out of blogging and allows me to enjoy it.

A Time cap on all socials

I love instagram, twitter and all the rest of it. However I am totally a culprit of falling for the zombie scroll and not actually getting any work done or actually spending any quality time with my blogging community.

So I try to give myself no more than an hour/ hour and a half each day on platforms like my instagram (where its so easy to be sucked in to the scrolling loop). This way I feel way more conscious of the time I’m spending on it and I make sure I’m a active but positive user of social. I think overall, thats healthier for my mind when digesting online content.

I know there’s a big talk about social media being a negative space and something that we over indulge in. However, I truly believe social media in small doses, providing we engage in the content that makes us feel positive and happy, is a wonderful thing.

Bulk photo ops

When it comes to curating photos for the blog I have two moods. i’m either so in it and i’m gonna take about 40 flat-lays or I have no motivation and no creative mindset.

So I block plan my photo ops and just write down what I need them for, be it a blog post or content for instagram. I’ve learnt to literally just throw objects that I want to capture down and take as many variations that I feel will work.

This is such an important ritual that I’ve adopted because it allows me to have a little image bank and its so helpful when it comes to scheduling content. Which is such a top priority to me, as working in the week sometimes blurs the boundaries on how productive I can allow myself to be. So having this little back-up can be amazing!

These three things might not seem life changing but they’re so helpful for personality types like mine. Where I’m literally the biggest procrastinator but also the biggest list maker all the tasks I want to accomplish.

What are your blogging rituals that you live by?

I set my screen time limits to shut off social media at 9pm now – it’s definitely helped x

I don’t think I have any real blog rituals to speak of. I just make lists of what I need to do and for when. As I have to work around my illnesses it’s hard to rigidly stick to anything. 🙂

I wish I could do a little bit of writing each day but I can’t! I get frustrated when I can’t as well, but should make better use of my time! x

Photography is something I love anyway but when I’m being organised I definitely like to try and take photos in bulk for my blog posts.
