Its okay to have a sick day (no really!)

So lets start with a moan. This week has not gone to plan at all. I originally planned to get organised with some Christmas shopping, start planning and writing content on my recent trip to Disneyland Paris, which was totally magical. Then return back to work on wednesday feeling all prepped and ready for the rest of the week.

It didn’t happen.

I, unfortunately came down with a cold and & flu. So everything just crashed and burned.

The week started fairly well, I was lucky enough to be invited to the bloggers kiehls event in Cambridge and I had a lovely evening learning about all things skincare while sipping prosecco. So a fabulous start to the week. However on my way home I was soon hit with the dreaded winter cold and started to worry about my plans for the rest of the week. I had to go back to work on Wednesday and after having 10 days of annuals leave the day before, there was no way I was taking a sick day. That just didn’t feel right, I had a gut wrenching feeling that nobody would believe me because I had just been on annual leave. Have you ever felt like that?

So I went to work, they looked at me. They sent me home. I tried to go back the next day, they sent me home. REST, they said. I have 218 emails to read, I said.

But in all seriousness, I had to take a step back and really ask myself as to why I could take allow my ill feverish body to rest. Surely that would be better for everyone and most of all for me?

Then I realised that, I never been able to take a day off without feeling guilty, even if I am really chucking up my guts. Why is this? Why do we live in a culture that makes us feel awful for taking the day off? It is important to realise thats it okay to take a day off, or even a few days in my case. Drink that medicine and do not allow your work life or online life to consume you when it would be better to allow your body to use that energy to rest and regenerate.

It is important to not feel guilty, do not allow yourself to be made to feel guilty and that a hard lesson I’ve learnt this week. I know I’ll get back on track soon, as I’m finally feeling this flu leave me. I know I’ve been able to recover so quickly because I’ve allowed my myself to be sick after adjusting and taking time off.

Work isn’t everything, but your health is.

Totally agree, it is SO important to get healthy by taking the time you need, so so important!

    • 💫 Thank goodness for Sundays! It’s been a long week and I cannot wait to just chill & watch 🎬 movies today. I thought I would give little update on how I’m getting on with the ⭐️NEW #BioluminCeye serum #gifted from @DermalogicaUK. It’s really nice to just brush over your 🧖🏼‍♀️ eyes in the morning & really perks me up (I literally reach for all my morning skincare as soon as I 😴 wake up). My under eye area feels a lot brighter & softer after use from these past couple of weeks. Pretty sure, I’m gonna have to 🛍 restock this one soon! 💖#skinfluencer
    • ✨ if only my week was as magical as these cute little tea lights. This week has literally been sponsored by lemon tea ☕️ & throat sweets 🍬 I’ve been off sick that last couple of days and I can tell you it is not ideal. ❄️ Isn’t the weather so bitterly cold in Cambridge recently? Not great when you’re under the weather with a cold! 🥶💖
    • 💫 And just like that, we’ve got through Monday.👊🏼 I had throughly enjoyed my weekend of just taking things slowly and chilling, I definitely need to have more weekends like this.✨ Since moving, I honestly love just hanging out in our living room because the space is sooo bright (can’t wait for longer ☀️days) and also I just feel so cosy here. 😻 Fee has her little spot at the end, right next to the radiator for the colder days too. I think I just need to get a few more pictures 📸 on the wall (currently being very fussy), maybe some more 🛋 cushions & definitely some more house plants. 🌿 Any home decor reccomendations? 💫
    • 🌟 Sunday’s are for doing the things you love.✨ That’s why my day will consist of 👩🏼‍💻blogging, ☕️ drinking massive amounts tea, 📸 scrapbooking and 📺 binging a little bit of Netflix. What does your Sunday look like? 💖
    • 💫I’m so glad we are hitting Friday tomorrow! Is it just me or has this week lasted for like, a year? I have a new blog post 👩🏼‍💻up though all about one of my new favourite coffee ☕️ spots in Cambridge. ✨ PLEASE go check this place out and treat yo’self if you’re local. The food is just divine. 💖
    • C’est fini! 🎉Really pleased to have finished my third book 📚 of the year & the 1st book of @bethsbookclub_ for 2020. Can I just say, this is SUCH a heartwarming💖 but also heartbreaking story! I didn’t want to love Ove as much as I did but I just couldn’t help it, really looking forward to chatting 👩🏼‍💻to everyone about this book later in the month. Now I need new book 📖 recommendations, what’s on your current reading list? 💫 #2020reads
